A holy place of reflection for those who gave and those who give. Church of Hauptkirche St. Michaelis sits within the city of Hamburg as historical and unique. The church asked to design a simple space for sitting and reflection. The area caters for the Parish’s on-site residents and general public.
The church opens into a historic plaza defined by a hand laid grid of stone. POLA had two objectives. To design a new location for the donation plates, atop the stairs deemed for removal, allowing for improved accessibility. The second to add contemplative and reflective programming within the open space.
Our response, a gorgeous water mirror that reflects the heavens. Imbedded in the water mirror is a verse from the bible. The design offers peaceful pause in a fast-paced world.
